Culter's relentless pursuit of our second successive Superleague Title
remained on course with a clear-cut 4 - 0 win over bottom of the table
Maud one of our main rivals back in our Amateur heydays. We always
enjoyed meeting them and this time was no exception.
In the 2nd minute, just as our bus party of committee/supporters arrived
from the Maud Social Club, Cameron chipped the ball over the Maud
defence and McRITCHIE hit it on the volley to open the scoring. In 12
minutes Stewart crossed and a defender cleared to the edge of the box
but broke to ADAM who fired home our 2nd goal. Two minutes later Pirie
was spoken to be Referee Burrows following a foul on Stewart. Next
minute Martin had a great chance when clean through but shot past A
Summers comer was fisted out by Pirie and the loose ball was deflected
narrowly over off a strong drive by Martin. In 26 minutes a high Stewart
cross into the Maud goalmouth towards McRitchie who fouled a defender in
the process. The injured Middleton was replaced by Milne on the half
hour mark. A 33rd minute Craik free kick from outside the far side of
the penalty box saw a powerful Cameron header tipped over the bar by a
great Stephen save. Off the resultant corner Rattray headed home but
Referee Burrows blew for an infringement A spectator commented "a
perfectly good goal disallowed". A couple of minutes afterwards Milne
had a great chance to reduce the leeway when he was clean through but
with only Pirie to beat he shot past A 38th minute long range shot from
Christie flew over the crossbar.
McRitchie's 40th minute try was ably held by Stephen. Next minute a
Ligertwood effort went over. Adam was booked in 42 minutes for a foul on
Ligertwood. A minute before the interval after good work by Calder he
found McRitchie whose try was blocked and brake to Cameron who shot
over. Just on half time a fine Cameron cross to the far post was was
just missed by McRitchie and Craik. Half Time: 0 - 2.
In the opening seconds of the 2nd half McRitchie burst through but shot
over. Referee Burrows had words with Martin and Cowell in 47 minutes.
Maud made a dangerous raid as they tried to come back into contention
but Martin's 50th minute shot went wide. Calder did well to beat a
defender and cut the ball across the goalmouth to Craik but `keeper
Stephen came to Maud's rescue. Next minute, however, CAMERON picked up a
through . ball, neatly evaded two defenders and hit the ball on the turn
into the far comer of the net - a brilliant goal.
After good play by Stewart his 65th minute parting shot was tipped over
the bar by Stephen. Just a minute afterwards following a scramble off
the resultant comer GREIG banged in Culter's 4th and final goal. At this
stage Ord replaced Cameron. McRitchie missed an easy chance from close
range in 71 minutes. A minute later Thain came on as substitute for
Cowell. Stewart cut the ball across in 74 minutes and Duncan appeared
to handle in the box but our penalty claims were in vain. Next minute
Calder cut the ball across to McRitchie who just failed to connect,
again at close range. Thain then replaced Cowell. A 76th minute
Stewart.free kick was well held by Stephen. A minute afterwards Stewart
cut the ball across the goalmouth and McRitchie somehow contrived to
miss a "sitter". Yet another fine cross from Stewart found Ord who
hooked the ball over
in 81 minutes. In 84 minutes a Cowie free kick went high over. Two
minutes later Ligertwood broke through but Pirie raced out of his charge
to snatch the ball from his feet Two minutes before the end Greig went
off injured but was not replaced. In the last minute Cowie shot weakly
into Pirie's secure arms.

Fascinating Finish. After this past week's results the
Superleague Championship remains in the balance. In midweek our rivals
Turriff United and Glentanar both
won and did so again yesterday. Our league lead has lessened but it sets
up an intriguing conclusion to the 2004/2005 season. Turriff United play
Glentanar at Turriff on Friday 13 May 2005 so whatever happens there
will boost our title hopes.
