Deesiders Bank Points

Soccer World Super League Culter 2 Sunnybank 1 H-T 1-1
Scorers: - Culter, Calder 19, Cameron 79. Sunnybank, Somers 25

Culter got their title challenge back on track with an important win over arch rivals Sunnybank
and now sit in 3rd position in the Super League. In far from favourable conditions it was more
of a grind- than the silky soccer Culter can produce. On the other hand `Bank look to be a club
in a bit of a crisis but the did have good chances to win the game particularly in the second
half but Culter snuck it in the end.

Culter started on the attack with Farmer going on a run before sending the ball to Craik but the move
broke down on the edge of the area. At the other end Somers fed Douglas but M. Pirie dealt with the
shot with ease. With 7 minutes gone Calder fed Cameron and Hutton had to took lively to turn the ball
behind for a comer. A couple of minutes later Farmer had an excellent chance when he cut in from the ,
left but Mclntosh just did enough to prevent a score. Culter took the lead in the 19"' minute when !~
veteran Ord found CALDER with a slide rule pass inside the area and the diminutive midfielder slotted I
the ball beautifully past the advancing Mclntosh. A few moments later a terrific ball from Farmer was I
turned behind for a comer by a relieved Cooper. Out of the blue `Bank equalised when SOMERS was 'i
at hand at the back post to neat a surprise leveller. This stunned Culter into action and Calder set up Thain in an advanced position but Mclntosh had his angles right and made a decent save. Culter were
dealt a blow just after when Ord was sent crashing to the turf by Rintoul who earned a yellow for his
tackle. Ord- was unable to continue and McRitchie stepped into the fray. Deep into the half a fine run -
and shot by Cooper almost put 'Bank ahead but M. Pirie pulled off va fine save. Despite this near thing
Culter continued to push and were almost rewarded when Farmer sent in a dipping cross but
ti".clntosh did well to punch the ball to safety. Covoell then had a go when he stepped inside to turn his
man but he lofted his attempt well over. On the stroke of half time Framer had a good shot saved by
Mclntosh.

With the wind now reaching gale force proportions the early encounters in the second half swung from
end to end but Culter had the first opportunity when Adam and Calder combined to let in Cameron but
his shot whistled wide. `Bank should have gone ahead in the 51't minute when a great ball by Rintoul
was met first time by Moreland but he skied the ball well over from deep inside the area. The
conditions were beginning to take their toll with neither side making much headway until `Bank missed
another glorious opening and this time it was Douglas who missed with a free header from a Crombie
cross. The visitors almost paid for this when Cameron sent in a dangerous cross and Pilichos was
mightily relieved to see his attempt at a clearance sliced away to safety. Culter seemed to be gaining
the upper hand again and Craik almost did the damage but his cross-cum-shot landed on the roof of
the net. Culter then sent on Stewart for Thain and his first involvement was to win a comer when
Cooper headed behind his cross. Culter took the lead again in the 79"' minute when CAMERON tried
to pick out McRitchie in the area but his fast arcing volley went straight into the back of the net. In the
dying minutes Somers was red carded for a tackle on Stewart as Culter took all three points.

Cufter: M. Pirie, Cowell, Allan, Calder, Rattray, Adam, Thain, Ord, Cameron, Craik, Farmer.
Subs: Smith, McRitchie, Stewart, Davidson, Collie

Culter could be without the influential Duncan Ord for quite a while as it looks as if he
has sustained ligament damage following the tackle which saw him helped from the
field.
