Woeful

Rollstud Regional Cup 2nd Round

Culter 3 Strathspey Thistle 4 AET Full Time 2-2 H-T 2-0

Culter produced one of their worst displays of the season with an inept second half and extra time display against an enthusiastic yet inexperienced Highland team. Supporters were left shaking their heads wondering how complete domination in the first half turned into capitulation in the second and in extra time.

Cameron had the first chance in the 1n minute but he shot straight at keeper C. Donaldson. A few minutes later Cameron had a header saved from a Davidson cross before Stewart set up McRitchie who fired just wide. With 15 minutes on the clock Stewart went on a darting run before sending in a great ball to McRITCHIE who buried a near post header. Grant then tried to get in on the act but his attempt flew well wide as Culter totally dominated. Stewart had a chance to put the Deesiders two up when he was left one on one with the keeper- but the gangly custodian pulled out a good save. The same player almost made amends in the 28th minute with a blistering left foot drive from just inside the box but the keeper was well positioned to save. The writing seemed to be on the wall for the Speysiders in the 31st minute when Collie sent in a cross for Stewart who in turn flicked the ball to CAMERON and he made no mistake from 4 yards out. Adam then found Craik who went on a dribbling run but he hooked his shot just wide. McRitchie and Cameron then had good opportunities but failed to deliver as Thistle, looked to be in all sorts of trouble. It looked to be all over: in the, 37th minute when a nonchalant attempt by McRitchie evaded the keeper but the ball hit the post and -,ran along the line before- being cleared. M. Pirie in the Culter goal was called into action for the first time in the 41st minute when he pulled off a stunning save from Bamett. This appeared to galvanise the previously intimidated Thistle and Bamett had a great opportunity to pull one back but blasted wide from good position.

Culter started the second period well when Cameron went on a dynamic run but McRitchie fired wide from the cross. Culter were apparently in control now and Stewart had a chance from a Craik pass but once again the ball drifted wide. McRitchie was the next sinner with a flick which the keeper did well to hold. With the game seeming to be won Culter replaced McRitchie with Calder but it did not bring luck as Thistle got back into it when a speculative cross by Hardie was headed into his own net by ALLAN in the 55th minute. A few minutes late the incredible happened when a Ross shot was well saved by M. Pirie but DAGTAS was on hand to steer the parry into the empty net to equalise the scoring. A few minutes later with Culter at sixes and sevens M. Pirie came to the rescue with a good save from Hardie. Stewart had a chance to tie up the match in the dying minutes of normal time but one again j the visiting keeper pulled off a good save.

Extra Time: Culter looked to be in control again early in extra time when CAMERON went through to make it 3-2. Incredibly Thistle pulled it back again in the first period when DAGTAS made it three all. 'Culter were made to pay in the second period when Davidson brought down Ross in the box and DAGTAS stepped up to put the visitors through.
