Back on Track

East End 0 Culter 2 H-T 0-1 Scorers: - McRitchie 33, Rattray 78

Culter got their league challenge back on track with a hard fought win against an aggressive East End side at a bitterly cold New Advocates Park The home side had seven players cautioned and their Manager was sent off late in the game for remarks made to referee Veitch. End started down the hill and were quickly into their stride and Thain had to make a good tackle to deny Murray an opportunity. A few moments later Stewart was sent clear by Grant but Robertson made a good save. With 7 minutes gone McRitchie back in the side sent Stewart away but he was sent crashing on the edge of the area and Adam took the free kick quickly but the ball drifted over. Craig then crossed for Grant but he blasted well wide. Crombie was the first player booked in the 13th minute for a wild lunge but Culter continued to push when a good run by Allan culminated in his cross being cleared for a comer by Stewart of End. Grant then found Rattray with a neat pass but his header went agonisingly over as Culter began to dominate and Craik was the next one to have a go but he shot wide. Pirie was first tested when End won a free kick on the edge of the box but the big keeper saved the effort with ease. Greig of Culter then earned a booking in the 20th minute before Shinnie blazed a free kick miles over and a few minutes later Innes ended up in the book for a clumsy tackle. The Deesiders took the lead with a goal of real quality. Stewart skipped up the right wing before sending in a delightful back post ball for MCRITCHIE who buried a header via-the post and into the back of the' net. Minutes before half time the End goal seemed charmed when a series of shots were blocked as Culter tried to add to their tally but somehow the ball stayed out.

Within minutes of the resumption Christie was booked and Crombie was replaced by Monro after the striker was sick in the centre circle. End won their first corner of the match in the 55tt' minute but it came to nothing. Stewart then went on a swaggering run but instead of passing to the well placed McRitchie he chose to go himself and the chance was gone. McRitchie looked to have doubled his account in the 58m minute but only an outstanding save from Robertson denied the big hit man. Massie, McAllister and Barr were then cautioned in quick succession as End threw in the tackles. The game was over as a contest soon after when Cowell was send sprawling on the edge of the box and skipper RATTRAY stepped up to send a beautiful curling shot into the roof of the net. Thain was then replaced by Ord and a few minutes later Edene made his tong awaited debut for the crippling McRitchie but he had little chance to shine as the game petered out.

Mike Moves.     Mike Fraser, who joined us in January 2003 from Parkvale Junior FC, has been transferred back to them. Mike never established himself as a starter in the opening line-ups but was mostly listed as a substitute who was regularly used in the latter stages of games. Mike's most memorable moment was off the field on 26 April 2003 when he was the outright £3300 winner of our Lottery - then our highest individual winner since our Lottery started. We thank Mike for his past services and wish him well for his return to Parkvale.
