Match abandoned
after 80 minutes
Culter looked to
have lost comprehensively against Glentanar at Woodside Sports Complex. With
80 minutes on the clock Robb of Glens and substitute Culter keeper Russell
Milne challenged for a fifty fifty ball in the box and unfortunately Russell
suffered a bad leg break. Referee Nicholson immediately stopped the match
but kept both sides waiting for what seemed like an eternity before
eventually halting proceedings due to the lack of an ambulance to take the
ill-fated stand in keeper to hospital. At the time Culter were 3-0 down and
looked to be out of it but the score at the time did not reflect the true
story of the match and both teams will have to do it all again at a later
date.
The first half was a fairly even affair with Culter perhaps having the best
of the chances but it was the home side who took the lead in the 42nd minute
when McAllister side footed home a Bartlett cross with the Culter defence
sleeping.
At the start of the second period Culter had the wind against them but still
looked likely to do something until a shocking lapse from the assistant
referee let Pirie of Glens clean through when clearly a considerable
distance offside. In his attempt to round the Culter keeper, Ivor Pirie, the
Culter custodian brought down the striker and was sent off in the 57th
minute. Milne stepped in between the sticks for the visitors but was
powerless to stop A. Campbell's spot kick. Glen's looked to be coasting 75th
minute when Sheriffs sprang the offside trap and slid the ball under the
substitute keeper.
We wish Russell a complete and speedy recovery.
