OVD Scottish Cup 2nd Round
Lads Club 0 Culter 2, H-T 0 - 2. Scorers: - Craik 4 mins, McRitchie 32
Culter made heavy weather of disposing of Lads Club at Jamieson Park but
deserved to go through but Lads' will be kicking themselves for not making
their first half dominance tell.Lads made a decent start when Lawie crossed
towards Innes but Pirie was alert to the danger and came out to claim
without difficulty. The Deesiders stunned the home side in the 4"' minute
when Rattray thumped a long ball up the left and CRAIK shrugged off the
attentions Lawie to poke the ball past the advancing Fowlie in the Lads
goal. The home side continued to push and a Greig clearance was deflected to
Jackiminie who headed agonisingly over. Culter were relying on the long ball
but a decent pass from Ord let in Christie but Fowlie did well to intercept
with Cameron lurking. Pirie was called into action again when Lauden
outsmarted Davidson before shooting powerfully but the experienced keeper
got his angles right and saved well. At the other end Craik should have
added his second following a great ball from Ord but he managed to miss with
the goal gaping. Culter were strangely subdued at this stage with Lads
playing some neat interpassing play and once again Lauden was a thorn when
he forced Craik into conceding a corner. With
27 minutes gone Culter were forced into a chaV e when Davidson twisted an
ankle and was replaced by Calder. The visitors got a barely deserved second
in the 32 minute but it was a goal of real quality. Cameron lifted a neat
ball to MCRITCHIE who steadied himself before dinking the neatest of lobs
over Fowlie and into the empty net. This seemed to steady the
uncharacteristically nervous Culter and Lads were dealt another telling blow
when Innes was dismissed for a second bookable offence following an
altercation with Christie who was also cautioned. On the stroke of half time
Cameron almost added a third when he headed down a good Craik cross but the
keeper saved well.
Culter came out for the second period with a bit more ambition and Cowell
set up Cameron in the box but his powerful shot was saved. A few moments
later Greig got forward but his attempt flashed just wide and soon after he
turned provider by letting in Cameron who blasted over with the goal at his
mercy. Cowell then tried to get in on the act following a good turn on the
edge of the area but his volley whistled inches over. Lads were not ready to
give up just yet and Wood was a little unlucky when his cross-cum-shot was
held by Pirie. Stewart then took to the fray in place of Craik but it was
Greig who almost did the damage with a cross that saw Fowlie forced to tip
the ball away from the underside of the bar. Stewart almost made a
contribution to the score when he played a one two with Cameron but he
blazed over from good position. Ord then let in the speedy forward but this
time he was unlucky to see the ball squirm past. Culter were now beginning
to dominate without looking clinical and Fraser recently on for Ord had the
ball in the net from a Stewart cross but referee Sim ruled that the ball had
gone out of play. Culter continued to press and Rattray made a fine run but
once again Fowlie pulled out a great stop.
Culter: Pirie, Thain, Greig, Cowell, Rattray, Ord, Davidson, Cameron,
McRitchie, K. Christie, Craik.
Subs: Stewart, Collie, Calder, Thow, Fraser
