Culter 0 Banks o' Dee 1
Scorer: Neil Garrett (9 minutes)
Evening Express Paul Morrison plus his Photographer were on Press duty for
our "mouth watering clash". It was also good to see former Deeside Piper
Reporter Andrew Reid at the game after his sojourn in Australia. !t was,
however, a disappointing afternoon for Culter when, in spite of most of the
pressure, going down by the only goal of the game.
In the 4'h minute Foy was in a dangerous position but was intercepted by
Thain and the ball went out for a corner. Garrett's try off the corner went
over the bar. After a 9t' minute corner the bal! was crossed and headed into
the corner of the net by GARRETT for what, surprisingly, proved to be the
single and decisive goal. Culter gained a fruitless comer in 11 minutes. Two
minutes later McRitchie slipped the ball to Craik whose try was blocked for
another corner. On the quarter hour mark Stewart 's shot went straight into
Goalkeeper's Martin's arms. In 17 minutes Rattray fouled Ogboke but off the
resultant free kick Foy headed wide. Ogboke was booked for "diving" a couple
of minutes later. Next minute a Stewart long range shot was easily held by
Martin. Craik gained a corner in 22 minutes. Immediately afterwards after
good play by Stewart his cross was headed into the net by Christie who was,
unfortunately, offsides. In 25 minutes Cowell sent the ball through to
Stewart who hit across the goalmouth but Goalkeeper Martin just beat
McRitchie to it to clear. Three minutes later Ogboke broke through but was
intercepted by Collie/Rattray to save the day. Cowell sent in a fine cross
in 33 minutes and `keeper Martin just managed to clear the ball off
Stewart's head to safety. Next minute Martin dropped a Cowell crossball but
retrieved it before Culter could take advantage. Stewart gained a corner in
36 minutes and off it Craik's shot was blocked by a defender. Next minute
Rattray and MacNamara were spoken to by Referee Morag Pirie after a clash.
Stewart was fouled in the 39th minute but McRitchie's resultant free kick
was headed clear. Two minutes before the interval Ogboke dispossessed
Rattray and broke through but Thain came to Culter's rescue with a timely
tackle. Just on half time a McRitchie try hit the side netting.
Half Time: Culter 0 v Banks o' Dee 1.
A 47th minute Foy shot was ably stopped by Pirie. Next minute Craik won a
comer and off Stewart's corner kick Craik's glancing header went past the
post. Cutter were pressing hard and in 51 minutes Stewart's cross into the
Dee goalmouth was headed out for another corner. A couple of minutes
afterwards McRitchie just failed to connect with a Christie cross from close
range. After neat work by McRitchie he slipped the ball to Stewart whose
56th minute shot on the turn was held by Martin. Next minute a Stewart cross
was snatched away from McRitchie's head by Martin. Culter kept pressing and
after a 59th minute scramble the ball was cleared by Dee out of their
goalmouth. After an hour had been played a McRitchie header was cleared off
Stewart's head by busy Goalkeeper Martin. Next minute in a rare Dee raid
Ogboke's long range shot flashed past the far post. In the 62nd minute Thain
intercepted Foy and turned the ball out for a corner off which Smith did
well to head out the dangerous ball. Ord replaced Thain after 64 minutes had
been played. Soon after Irvine was booked for a foul involving Christie. In
the 75th minute Craik had a good chance but headed past. Next minute Foy had
an opportunity but his shot lacked power and was comfortably held by Pirie.
Fraser came on as substitute for Collie after 80 minutes had been played. !n
the next few minutes Culter sustained a series of three bookings - Christie
for a foul then McRitchie and Stewart, both for dissent. In between bookings
Davidson was fielded for Collie. Davidson's 85th minute cross was scrambled
away from McRitchie's feet in front of goal. Next minute a McRitchie try was
blocked for yet another corner. It was all Culter but no goals were
forthcoming. Craik came next to have a go in 87 minutes but his shot was
held by Martin. !n a rare second half raid Ogboke sent the ball to Milne a
minute afterwards but his shot went narrowly past the upright.
