Dufftown Defeated

Rollstud Regional Cup - First Round
Culter 3 Dufttown 1 H-T 0 -1
Scorers: Culter. McRitchie 61, 70 mins. Dufftown. Ewan 17 mins

After a resounding 7 - 0 win over Dufftown in the opening fixture of the season, a Grill League Cup tie, on Tuesday 10 August 2004, Culter had to struggle to overcome Dufftown this time. A feature of the game was the countless number of comers which Culter gained. Dufftown broke through in the 3`dminute and Ewan shot narrowly past. In 6 minutes a Davidson crossball was headed past by Craik. Next minute after good work by B Smith his cross was too hard for McRitchie and the ball ran out of play. A high ball from Rattray landed on the roof of the net in the 9th minute. A minute later it was Rattray again when he beat K Smith but his shot was deflected over the bar. On the quarter hour mark a long range Christie shot was comfortably held by White. Culter were stunned in the 17th minute when; EWAN fired the ball low into the comer of the net to open the scoring. A couple of minutes afterwards Davidson had two shots at goal. In the 20th minute Craik tried to break through but `keeper White intercepted him to turn the ball out for a comer. White punched out a 27th minute corner and the ball broke to McRitchie whose overhead kick went straight into White's arms. In 31 minutes a Henderson free kick skimmed over the bar. A high Craik ball from the left wing sailed narrowly past the far post in the 34th minute. After 38 minutes had been played Culter gained three corners in succession. Two minutes before the interval a B Smith long range drive crashed against the crossbar. Just before half time Ewan was booked for a foul on Thain.

 Half Time: Culter 0 v Duftown 1.

In 48 minutes Goalkeeper White dived to save a fine Cameron header. Two minutes later Pirie pulled off a great save to stop Adam's goalbound header. White saved shots in quick succession from B Smith then Calder in the 52nd minute. Rattray: was booked for dissent after 58 minutes had been played. McRITCHIE neatly beat a defender and shot Culter level in the 61st minute Stewart replaced Christie at this stage. In 63 minutes Calder broke through and passed to Stewart who send the ball across the goalmouth but White snatched it away before Davidson could connect. Two minutes later Stewart broke through but shot straight at White. A 70th minute comer broke to McRITCHIE who fired Culter ahead. Hector was booked for dissent. In the 74th minute Cameron cut the ball across the goalmouth to McRitchie who somehow contrived to miss from close range. In a repeat performance in the 78th minute Stewart sent the ball across to McRitchie who just failed to connect from a point blank position. Next minute Ord and Fraser  were fielded for Davidson and Thain. Culter's passage into the Second Round was assured when STEWART hit home a cracking goal to make the final score 3 -1 in our favour.
