Woeful at Wilson's

Soccer World Super League

Wilson's X13 Culter 1 H-T 2-0
Scorers: - Wilson's, Dillon 17, McKenzie, 43, Lewis 73. Culter, Stewart 62

Culter started off like a house on fire against supposedly lowly opposition but left with their tails
between their legs as once again they fell to inferior opposition which was a concern in the middle
part of last season. To give Wilson's their due they fought for every ball and indeed played some
decent football in spells but they would admit that some of the referee's decisions helped them.

The Deesiders started on the attack and a thrusting move saw Adam cross for Rattray who headed just
over. Craik then combined with Stewart to set up Cowell who had a good shot saved by Farquhar. Stewart
then sent Cameron free in the box in the e minute and just as he was about to round the keeper he was
axed by the goalie but the ref. pointed for a comer. Smith then tried to get in on the act with a canny shot
but his effort zipped wide. In their first attack the home side had an opportunity but McKenzie hit the side
netting. Culter looked to have scored in the next attack when Stewart made a great turn in the box but
Cameron's header just shaved the post with Farquhar beaten. Collie then set Cameron away but he could
only win a corner and from the resultant kick by Stewart, Adam's header was cleared off the line. Craik then sent Stewart away and he was downed in the box but once again the ref. waved play on. Culter just could not get the opener and on this occasion the bar intervened When Cameron sent a crisp volley in and from the rebound Smith fired just over. Culter were caught with a sucker punch in the 17th minute when Steel sent a long ball into the box and DILLON was on hand to steer the ball past the unguarded Pirie. A few minutes later Stephen should have made it 2-0 but he dallied and Rattray managed to get a block in. Culter kept pressing for the equaliser and it almost came via route 1 when Pirie launched a long clearance for Stewart but his header was saved by the well positioned Farquhar. With time running out in the first period the normally reliable Smith lost the ball on the half way line to Lewis who ran forward before setting up McKENZIE who netted with ease.

Culter started the second half in determined fashion and a°five man move saw Stewart shoot just wide.
Wilson's were now parked in their own half as Culter tried to bounce back but in a rare break Lewis went on a surging run only to be denied by the advancing Pirie. Skipper Rattray tried to show his forwards how to do it with a typically determined run but his shot did not posses the power to trouble Farquhar. Culter were thrown a lifeline soon after when Farquhar and Bruce were at cross purposes and STEWART snuck in to steer the ball home from well outside the area. Culter then sent on Ord and McRitchie for Collie and Calder in an attempt to take something from the game but they were down to ten men when Adam was sent packing for an altercation with Lewis who seemed to be the perpetrator of the crime. It was all over a few minutes later when former Culter target LEWIS was allowed to run unchecked into the box before
slamming the ball behind Pirie. Culter just could not get going and should have gone further behind in the
dying minutes when man of the match Lewis was sent clear by Stephen but he fired wide with only Pirie to beat.

Culter: Pirie, Collie, Greig, Cowell, Rattray, Adam, Calder, Stewart, Cameron, Smith, Craik. Subs: Fraser,
McRitchie, Ord, Davidson Grant.
