Match Report: Culter gained revenge for the defeat by Longside in the
Grill League Cup with a comprehensive victory at Crombie. It could have been
so different as Murray Rattray was red carded by referee Craig Sim early in
the second half with the game goalless.
Cutter started well
when Calder set up Stewart but Grant saved his shot well. Fraser of Longside
then tried his luck from well out with a free kick but the ball flew high
and wide. Stewart then combined with Cameron but his flick was just too high
for Craik who was lurking unmarked at the back post. Culter were having the
vast majority of possession but were not troubling Grant unduly but at the
other end a speculative cross by Reid forced Pirie to palm onto his own bar
and away to safety. Stewart then found Craik but his shot was steered off
the line by Cowie. Culter had a couple of decent opportunities near the end
of the period with Stewart and Craik both coming dose to opening the
scoring.
Within minutes of the
restart Culter were down to ten men when Rattray was given his marching
orders when he was alleged to have downed a Longside forward on the edge of
the area. Despite the protestations the referee kept his decision. This
seemed to spur the Deesiders on and they upped a gear or two and Grant
produced a fantastic save from Greig. Culter then took on Christie for Smith
but it was Stewart who provided the ammunition for the first score when he
sent in a telling cross for CAMERON who rose to send a great header into the
net. Culter then gained a series of comers and Stewart was unlucky to see
his chip drift over from a Christie pass. Culter added a second in the 82nd
minute with a wonder strike from CHRISTIE following some spectacular
interpassing play. It looked all over a few moments later when CAMERON rose
to meet a Stewart comer but Grant could consider himself unlucky as the ball
cannoned off the bar and hit him on the back before rolling over the line.
In the dying seconds `Side pulled one back when GREIG steered a Ritchie
cross into his own net.

Tuesday Match
Report: Sunnybank took full points in a bizarre match at Heathryfold in
very miserable and slippery conditions. Both sides were reduced to ten men
near the end of the first period when Cooper of `Bank and McRitchie of
Culter were both sent for an early shower for involvement in separate
incidents.
`Bank took the game to
Cutter in the early stages and won two comers which came to nothing.
McRitchie had a snap shot a few minutes later which slid just wide. Ord then
combined with Calder but he shot well over. `Bank did have a chance in the
17"' minute but Pirie dealt with the effort from Douglas with ease. Craik
then saw himself free on the left but the keeper narrowed the angle to block
the shot. The home side took the lead in peculiar circumstances in the 33rd
minute when a dangerous Rintoul free kick slid off of GREIG's head and
landed in the back of the net. Culter had a chance to pull one back straight
from the kick off but McRitchie's dipping shot from a Cameron pass drifted
just over. Cooper of Sunnybank was shown his marching orders when he lashed
out at Cameron on the by-line and a few moments later McRitchie fell to the
same fate on the opposite touchline when he foolishly aimed a kick at an
opponent.
Culter came out
fighting for the second period and Ord forced a good save out of Mclntosh in
the 46th minute. Ord then went on a skirmishing run but was felled just
outside the area. From the free kick Craik once again forced Mclntosh into a
first class save. Calder then combined with Collie but his shot was blocked
for yet another comer. Pirie then came to the rescue when he saved
spectacularly from a Douglas attempt. Culter kept pressing in the hope of an
equaliser and K. Christie came close but his drive was booted of the line by
a defender. `Bank almost scored an undeserved second late on when Douglas
thundered a volley off the post. Culter kept pressing until the end but
could not find a way through.
