Kilwinning Loss

Scottish Super Cup Semi Final: Kilwinning 4 Culter 2 H-T 1-0

Culter kicked 0ff the new season with a loss in an entertaining game in the semi-final of the Scottish Super Cup. It was the first time Culter have been involved at this stage in a National Competition, The game kicked off in blustery cold conditions on a pitch with a pronounced slope. The home s. de took the initiative from the start and Rattray did well to thump the ball away to safety- McRitcie then went close from an Adam pass as Culter clawed their way back into the game. Craik then took a corner which landed far Ord but the home keeper punched his shot out of the danger zone. Culter were looking dangerous on the counter attack and Cowell found Cameron who headed just wide. Rangers did however manage to play some delightful footie! but Pirie denied them with a fine stop with his feet. The Ayrshire side were beginning to dominate at this stage and Adam was on hand to clear a shot off the line. Deep into stoppage time in the first period Rangers went ahead when Pirie failed to touch the ball when he came for a corner and the big Rangers centre had buried the ball into the back of the net.

In the 3rd minute of the second period Culter were back on level terms when a Craik corner was cleared to the edge of the area and CALDER hit a screamer into the back of the net.  A few minutes later Culter were euphoric when a Cameron pass found MCRITCHIE in space and the prolific marksman rounded a defender and buried a clinical shot behind the keeper. Culter were dealt a blow when the influential Craik had to be replaced by Collie and this signalled a bout of pressure from the home outfit Instead crf pushing for a vitaf third Culber were forced to defend and it was no surprise when the Buffs got an equaliser courtesy of a fine finish from their right winger. There was worse to follow a few minutes later when they went ahead despite a fine save from Piire. The game was over as a contest in the 75th minute when Cowell was ordered off for a second bookable offence in his first game for the club. The home side added to their tally with 7 minutes to go when Pirie let a spectaculative shot squirm under his body and saw the ball dribble over the line for a fourth.

Culter can take much from the game and could have won had circumstances been different
