SCOTTISH WATER

MANY of you will have read, in the local press, an article from Scottish Water telling us about changes, which will take place from October this year. I felt it was important to remind you of some of the changes so here are the main points from their letter to CCC:

“In your area we are moving to a treatment process called chioramination, which has been widely used for many years throughout the UK . As you know, some people are sensitive to the taste and smell of chlorine and we can overcome this 1 adding very small quantities of ammonia to the water to form chioramines. The new treatment process should reduce the taste and smell of chlorine in your tap water but otherwise you should notice no difference.

Most of our customers will be unaffected by this change but owners of fish, aquatic reptiles and amphibians need to make sure their tank is fitted with the correct type of filtration equipment. We have written to pet shops to advise them of this and provided them with information leaflets to distribute to their customers.

There is also information available for kidney dialysis patients as they need to ensure the equipment used in their care plan is suitable or modified accordingly. We have informed the relevant Health Authorities of this change and have provided them with leaflets to distribute to renal patients.”
