NEW SCOUT EXPLORERS SECTION

FOR 14 TO 18 YEAR-OLDS

PLANS for a completely new section called Explorers, based on Deeside, are now well advanced. The creation of this new section is an imaginative move by the Scout Association and is part of a complete revamp of Scouts to cater for 21st Century experiences, styles and needs. The revamp includes new, less formal uniforms and a new integrated programme for the development of young people, which is closely aligned with the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme.

It is planned to create a Deeside Explorers Unit based on Templars Park, which will draw on members from Cults, Milltimber and Peterculter, and we are hoping that Drumoak and Maryculter would like to participate too. Meetings will start in September, initially once a month at Templars, in order to define and agree the shape of the Unit and to get ready for a formal start around Easter next year. Flexibility of the programme is key and it will be up to the Unit members to decide their constitution and the activities they wish to pursue. Suggested activities include canoeing, climbing, abseiling, hiking, mountain biking and many, many more.

Explorers is open to males and females in the 14-18 age range and it is not necessary to have been a Scout or Guide previously.  By joining now you can help shape the future of the group!

Templars Redevelopment

Ambitious plans to redevelop Templars Park with new activities and facilities are well underway. We are presenting our plans to potential sponsors on Saturday afternoon 31st August at Templars so if you, or your company or organisation, are in a position to contribute please contact Simon for details.

25th Anniversary

The 58th Aberdeen Scout Group celebrated its 25th Anniversary on Saturday 22 June with a family fun day and barbeque at Templars. Ann Harcombe who provided long service in Culter as Cub Leader, was guest of honour and cut a huge cake to mark the occasion. Former chairman, Donald Forbes was presented with a set of Scout inscribed wine glasses and Darryl Munro concluded the celebrations with a traditional campfire sing-song.
