  ROTARY CLUB OF ABERDEEN-DEESIDE

NEW President & Council members elected for the Rotary Club of Aberdeen-Deeside

The Rotary Club of Aberdeen-Deeside has elected Ian Connon as President for the 2002-2003 Rotary year.

The office of President was handed over by retiring President Robin Imrie on 3rd July at the weekly meeting. Past President Robin said: "It is only a bit more than a year ago that our Club, the youngest in Scotland North, received its official Charter. Since then we have been involved in several projects in the community. We organised the Primary Schools' Quiz, got involved in Cults Clean-up day, sponsored Young Musician of Year award, assisted the Voluntary Service Overseas organisation and was present at the MBC festival with a wheel of fortune, bouncy castle, face painting and other activities.

The dual gender Club currently has 34 members (8 of whom are lady-members) . Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In more than 160 countries worldwide, approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 29,000 Rotary clubs.

A highlight of the Aberdeen-Deeside Club this year was the School Litter Bin project, through which the Club provided pencil-shaped Litter Bins at eight Primary Schools in the Aberdeen area. Henk Jaap Kloosterman, Secretary of the Rotary Club of Aberdeen Deeside says: "The Litter Bin project aims to encourage our children to become more litter conscious by providing Primary Schools with brightly coloured attractive bins which will brighten up the playground as well. We were very pleased to find Shell willing to sponsor the project.

The Rotary Club of Aberdeen-Deeside meets every Wednesday evening at the Cults Hotel. Interesting speakers are invited to address the Club on a regular basis.

Rotarians come from all walks of life but are bound together by a common desire to help those less able to help themselves.
