PETERCULTER MEDICAL PRACTICE

THE main recent event has been the retiral of Dr Stuart Duncan after over thirty years as medical practitioner in Peterculter - a long and distinguished career. The event was marked by several celebrations, including a presentation by Culter Community Council (who had organised the subscription fund from patients) and once again on behalf of the practice team we wish Dr and Mrs Duncan the very best fo the future.

Dr Joanne Owen joined the partnership on 1 July, having previously been with us for a year in 2000/2001 to complete her general practice training. She then worked as GP assistant at the Hamilton Medical Practice in town prior to assuming her new partnership with the Peterculter practice - we warmly welcome Dr Owen on board, and wish her a long and happy career in Peterculter.

It is now just over a year since the official opening of our new building and there is general agreement that the project has brought many benefits to the daily workings of the practice, and we hope that this is a view shared by our patients too!

NHS 24 has now been operating since May, taking initial calls during contacts for advice or medical help out-of-hours. The organisation works closely with GDOCS to coordinate emergency advice and medical care. As with any major service change some time has been required for adjustment, and we are grateful to those of you who have fed back comments to us about the new arrangements. Please continue to do this as it is essential to have the views of the users of the service.

Dr DCM HARRIS

At a very small gathering at the Health Centre on Friday 28 June, Dr Stuart Duncan was presented with a cheque for £1,500. This was the amount subscribed by his patients and friends at the Culter and Cults branches of Clydesdale Bank and the Post Office, Drumoak. Culter Community Council, who had arranged the collection after enquiries from many patients, received a letter of thanks from Dr Duncan.
