HAVE
you ever wondered what 'Community
Care' actually means and how it benefits its service users? Did you know
that
Cornerstone
Community Care - the largest charity based in Aberdeen - provides over two
million hours of care per year in order to provide an award-winning
service that fulfils its aim 'to enable people who require our support to
enjoy a valued life'?
Cornerstone
is a registered charity that provides
supportive
services
to children and adults with
learning disabilities
and other special needs (and their families) in Scotland.
Nick
Baxter,
Chief Executive of
Cornerstone,
said: 'We provide vital supportive services to individuals with learning
disabilities and other special needs. The work that we do really makes a
difference to people's lives, ft is through hard work and
determination that we have expanded these services not only in
Aberdeen but now
throughout Scotland.'
Cornerstone
was established in 1980 in Aberdeen
by a group of parents and professionals who were concerned about
the lack
of
supported accommodation in the community for people with learning
disabilities. Since then, Cornerstone has grown from strength
to strength but still requires a vast amount of support. Cornerstone works
in close collaboration with local authorities, people who require
our support and their families, to ensure that
we meet their needs. Currently, Cornerstone provides services to over 400
people including individuals with learning and/or physical disabilities,
head injuries, autism and dementia, as well as providing support for
families and carers.
