THE 50 + WALKING GROUP CULTER

HEAVY rain lashed down on the 18 October and we intended going to the Fairy Glen, Invercauld but decided, as there is little shelter on that walk, we would go to Glen Tanar instead. This was after our stop at the Victoria Restaurant, Dinner, a favourite with us. Our spirits are always high despite the weather and we told ourselves 'At least it is not cold.'

Our next walk was very pleasant, weather-wise, and with a full bus we managed the Monymusk and Castle Fraser walks which were denied us back in the Spring, when Foot and Month restrictions had to be adhered to.

The following three walks were to The Fairy Glen on 15 November, Seaton Park and Brig o' Balgownie on 29 November and The Mulloch (Durris area) followed by a walk through one of the nicest walks at Drum Castle where everything was white with frost. A real live Christmas Card.

On 7 December we had our Christmas lunch at the home of Ann and David Wakefield, cooking, thanks to Ann and of course Madge McKenzie's expertise. Following a sumptuous meal we had a collection for the Renal Unit at Foresterhill which amounted to £310. Aileen Craigmile and I delivered this excellent offering to the Renal Unit where it was most gratefully received. This was Aileen's place of work as Night Sister so she spoke to many of her former work mates and several patients known to her through her years of work in that department. It was quite an eye-opener to me as I have not been in that particular area of the hospital and I admire the wonderful care given to the many patients having treatment there,

January 10 we had our meeting again at Ann Wakefield's home where coffee was served while we decided on the walks we intend doing in 2002. All concluded successfully and the group headed for Stonehaven beach for a short walk in lovely sunshine
