58TH ABERDEEN (CULTER) SCOUT GROUPTHE 58th Aberdeen has 3 Scouts going to the World Jamboree in Thailand together with one, possibly two, leaders. The Jamboree will be held from 27.12.02 to 7.01.03 together with 40,000 other Scouts and Leaders from around the world. The infrastructure has already been built at Sattahip and preparations for a temporary city are well under way. More details are available at www, scoutbase.org.uk which also provides a wealth of other information about Scouting. The Beavers as always were very busy last term doing lots of crafts, games and outdoor activities when the daylight permitted. The term was rounded up with a visit to the Culter pantomime which was enjoyed by all. A full programme has been planned for next term which is to include some drama, crafts for Mother's Day and for Easter, plenty of new games and, hopefully, a follow up visit from the Coastguard whom we visited in September. The Cubs also have been very busy. In particular our Sports Evening was very successful with everyone getting Athlete 1, most getting Athlete 2,and four achieving Athlete 3. Most Cubs also have gained badges in Home Safety, Communicator, and Map Reader (with fantastic creativity demonstrated in building models of a mountain - one was even edible). It's great to see several of the Cubs wanting to work for additional badges in their own time. The Scouts have had another busy term with activities including a treasure hunt round Peterculter, a night-time hike around Countesswells woods, and various games and badge activities in the Hall and at Templars. The highlight of the Tuesday night programme was undoubtedly the rock climbing session at Summerhill Centre at which all the Scouts (and some of the leaders!) had a go and thoroughly enjoyed. The term finished with an all night party at Banchory Scout Hall, surrounded with snow just before Christmas. The games, videos, and eating went on well into the wee sma' hours and not much sleep was had by anyone! The programme for the coming term includes the regional 5-a-side football competition, swimming badges, pancake making and perhaps even scuba-diving. The Ventures were kept busy last term doing a wide range of activities Simon Sawyers |
