CULTER BOYS CLUB

WE are halfway through the season and once again the weather is making a good case for summer football with most of the Culter Boys Club teams building up quite a backlog of fixtures. At the time of writing, the under 18s were best placed of all our teams and were undefeated after their first four games.

One of our teams in the younger age group received a boost at the end of last year with £500 of sponsorship from the 'Culter Chipper'- the Brighton Fish Bar. The money has been used to buy waterproof jackets for the 16-player squad, together with new a sports holdall for each member of the team-Dave Ross is manager of the under 10s and he was delighted when Aberdeen Football Club agreed to host a visit from the team before the under 21 match against Celtic last December. The boys were given a tour of the stadium and a walk on the pitch. They also met some of the Aberdeen and Celtic players.

"This was a fantastic experience for the boys and very exciting for them to meet some of their heroes. Aberdeen Football Club could not have been more welcoming' enthused Dave.

One Celtic player particularly keen to meet the boys was Shaun Malonev who already has some first team experience with the Glasgow team. The reason? Shaun is a former Culter Boys Club player! Shaun played in the successful Under 14 team run by Derek Snow and Alan McAvoy who won the B league in 95/96 and was quickly snapped up by Celtic-He follows in the footsteps of other former Culter Boys Club players like David Robertson (Aberdeen, Rangers & Leeds United) and Darren Ferguson (Aberdeen & Manchester United) who have launched successful careers in professional football after learning the game here in Culter.

Other interesting facts can be found on the Culter Boys Club website - www.culterboysclub.btinternet.co.uk where you can also track the latest results and league positions for all of our teams.
