Culter Football Club
League
Leaders: At time of reporting, Culter FC is still the clear leader in the
Superleague Championship race (23 April 2005). Our bid for a second successful
triumph, in what was the inaugural Superleague Title, remains good. At this
stage we have 4 league games left to play - including rivals Turriff United, who
could pass us by a point - whilst Glentanar could still be in close contention.
Roddy Runs
Riot: Roddy Cameron is deposing Neil Ritchie as our top scorer this season.
He scored all five goals in our 5-0 Acorn Heating Cup Quarter-final Tie against
Wilson's X1. Roddy's 5th goal brought Culter's tally for the season to 100 of
which Roddy has netted 38 whilst Neil is in second place with 25.
John's Joy: Regular supporter and valuable helper John K Ogston scooped
our record-breaking £4,200 Lottery Prize. Former Aberdeen FC goalkeeper,
affectionately known as `Tubby', had his son David to thank because he chose the
winning line. It seemed as if there would no winners, although many entrants had
5 out of G numbers, but when it came down to the last few tickets to be checked
(all John's) Eric J Duncan announced that the outright winner was John!
Glentanar Games: On 18 February 2005, the 1st round tie of the Acorn
Heating Cup against Glentanar, due to be played at Woodside Sports Complex, was
postponed due to their snow-covered pitch. This was the third time this season
that games against Glentanar were not fulfilled. Our Superleague match, due to
be played at Crombie Park on 20 November 2004, wascalled off unexpectedly prior
to the kick off because referee Paul Cheyne decided that the pitch was frozen
and unplayable. The Superleague game being played at Woodside on 8 January 2005
of course was abandoned after 80 minutes following goalkeeper Russell Milne's
most disappointing double leg break. At the time, Glentanar was leading 3-0.
Russell is still off work due to his serious injury. Two of these games have now
been played leaving the crucial replay of the abandoned Superleague game to come
at Woodside. In March Culter won the Acorn Heating Cup Tie 2-0 away, and in
April the Superleague game was drawn 0-0 at Crornbie Park
