DISTRICT NEWSSOME of you will have seen me walkingaround, almost as well as before, the hip well healed. You do not need to be a genius to know what my main out-of-hours activity is at this time of writing, but by the time you get this, the election will be over, thank heavens. A number of street signs have been interfered with, and I will be taking a tour and then sending in a consolidated list of all those which are missing. It will take some time for replacements to appear, though, as the ordering process is quite long. Aberdeen City Council wants to use Culter as a pilot for a "Plastic Bag-Free Zone" project. I have backed the idea enthusiastically, as I hate seeing trees and bushes festooned with their remains. I hope you will all join in when the time comes. "The Point" in Broad Street still has a series of strong, washable shopping bags for sale for only a pound each, and these are excellent for carrying large (or small) amounts in. We will be seeing further details as the project gets under way. It should make Culter a much tidier place. The 3Rs Project, which will include a new Cults Academy, is making progress. There is a Reference Group, for community input, at this early stage of the Project. Culter has two Community Council representatives on this Group, as well as myself. I would be happy to hear any views which you might wish to be taken into consideration, or to answer any queries you may have. We have not got as far as detailed designs yet, though and it will be some years before we have a spanking brand new school ready to open. Happy summer holidays, and good gardening! Pam MacDonald |
