CULTER GALA 2005ORGANISATION of the gala this year has been eventful in more ways than one. Paul Anderson (Co-ordinator), left for pastures new to Bristol and our Treasurer, Nicola Hector imminently awaits the birth of her second child; good luck, Nicola. The job of Gala co-ordinator somehow fell to me; thankfully our committee, although small in number, works as a team to put this whole thing together. Without them it wouldn't happen. Did you know that there are very few community galas held these days and we should be proud that our village has kept it going over the years? For those of you that don't know; the Gala enables our local groups to raise funds, and not just on Gala day. Money collected from various events is eventually distributed to the local groups that apply to the Community Council for a donation later in the year. Gala Day must be the one event that sees almost all of Culter together at any one time. So let's keep the community spirit going by joining in some of the events taking place this year. A Gala programme should be enclosed in your Courier giving dates and times of all events. A new event we are hoping to run this year is an Art/Craft Exhibition and Sale of Work to be held over the weekend of 21 st/22nd May at the Heritage Hall (see posters for times). This will be a small exhibition from local artists. Admission free, do come along. Our annual Quiz Night takes place on Friday 20th May, 8pm, Mill Club; as usual run by Kipper, whose unique quiz is something not to be missed. Whether you are a brain box or a numpty this is a great night. If you have never been before, get a few friends together and come along and give it a try. Teams of 4 (entry £1 per person). Gala Day theme is the Circus. We have our usual procession of vintage vehicles plus community floats and this year we are fortunate to have the `Fire limo' as well as the stretch limo. Five groups are interested in putting out a float, however, we are struggling to obtain a vehicle and driver for them all. Balmoral Group have kindly loaned us one; are there any individuals or companies out thcre willing to do the same? If you can help, please contact me. (details below) We have many more community stalls taking part this year - a Mega Slide, plus a free toddler playground, as well as some super events going on in the ring. The day will finish with our Grand Raffle Draw (lst prize £200 cash). Tickets on sale around the village and at the raffle tent on Gala Day. With such a fun-packed week, all I hope now is for the sun to shine on Cutter to make Gala Day a really special event for everyone. Jan Murphy Gala Co-ordinator (732508) |
