Recycling
Great progress has already been made. Our recycling rate has risen from 10.6% in 2003/4 to 18.9% so far this year. But we need to recycle 29% of our household waste in order to meet the target set by the Scottish Executive. To help use achieve this target, please make use of the recycling facilities we offer. You are currently provided with a weekly waste paper recycling collection and a fortnightly garden waste collection (which will start again w/c 28th March). Please call 01224 523310 for details if you are not already using these services. We aim to offer residents in Culter the enhanced kerbside collection of glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles and food and drink cans by Summer 2006. Until this time, please continue to use the Recycling Point at Kermerty Road car park where you can recycle paper and cardboard, glass bottles and jars, food and drink cans, plastic bottles and textiles. Recycling Points are also located at many large supermarkets. Of course recycling is not the only thing you can do to help! You can also reduce the amount of rubbish you create at home by reducing Jthe amount of packaging that you buy. Try to take re-useable bags with you when you go shopping instead of accepting a new one each time; use your local librarv to borrow books, CDs and DVDs; try to use rechargeable batteries instead of disposable batteries; and give unwanted items to charity shops.
