Petroleum Women's Club

OVER 30 years ago a group of women sitting round the kitchen table, over a 'fly cup' began discussing the problems that came with being, (what were then universally known as), an oil wife. The uprooting of the family every few years, leaving behind family and friends, the lack of a network of support which it takes years to build up. They decided that they needed to form a group to ensure that no newcomer to Aberdeen, of whatever nationality, should need to feel lonely or left out and that other women, who understood, would rally round to support and help.

And so, The Petroleum Women's Club of Scotland was born. Many separate activity groups were set up and there are now 13, including Bookworms, the Dinner Club, the Movies, Golf, Mahjong, Ten pin bowling, Walking and Patchwork and Quilting.

Once a month there is a General Meeting at the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen, where we meet to chat over coffee and listen to a speaker. Occasionally Outings to places of interest are organised and each year a local Charity is adopted and there are fund raising lunches and raffles etc. In fact there is always something to do, somewhere to go, and most importantly, someone to do it with.
