Culter Football Club

Dinner Delight: Our 19th Celebrity Dinner on Friday 12 November 2004 proved yet again to be another firstclass night. The event was attended by approximately 220 gentlemen (slightly fewer than last year) and, as usual, there was a great atmosphere. President Doug Jamieson made the introductory speech, Gordon Morrison said Grace, and Peter Mitchell was once more our superb Master of Ceremonies. Di ckCampbell, then Brechin City Manager (now Manager of Partick Thistle) had every_ one in stitches with his own brand of football stories whilst Patrice kept all entertained with his ribald humour.

November News: Culter was announced as Team of the Month for November 2004. Culter started that month by beating Lads Club 2-0 at Woodside in the 2nd round of the OVD Scottish Junior Cup. In two away Superleague games, Culter overcame Ellon United 5-1 at Ellon then in a late, late show, stunned FC Stoneywood to win 2-1 There was a frozen fixture in between these two games when a top-of-the-table clash with Glentanar unexpectedly was postponed. Crombie Park had been declared playable in a morning inspection but the outcome of a prematch inspection decided that the pitch was frozen and unplayable. A big crowd went home in sunshine.

Bad Break: In the opening game of 2005, Culter met Glentanar at a bitterly cold Woodside on Saturday 8 January. Culter was down at the interval by a single goal and, in a disputed incident, 'keeper Ivor Pirie was sent off for bringing an attacker down. 21 years old Russell Milne wasbrought on as substitute at this stage but Glentanar scored the resultant penalty then Culter went down 3-0 after Glentanar went clean through again. With only 9 minutes left to play, Russell collided with a Glentanar player and suffered a double leg break then had to wait 40 minutes for an ambulance to arrive. The game was abandoned.

Playing Pool: In October, we welcomed back Kevin Allan from Inverurie Loco Works. Dave Calder was placed on the transfer list in December but latterly changed his mind and we are pleased that he remains in the squad. Following our goalkeeper problems, in January we welcomed very experienced goalkeeper Martin Pirie from Elgin City and at last were able to sign Alain Ndomo Edene from Cameroons. On the other hand, we said farewell to Mike Fraser who was transferred back to his former club Parkvale Junior FC the same month.

Maryhill Matches: Culter had dramatic games in the OVD Scottish Junior Cup 3rd Round. On Saturday 4 December 2004, Culter just failed to beat one of the Cup favourites in an enthralling encounter at CrombiePark. The large crowd included surprise spectator Anne Begg, MP for our area. It took a late soft penalty for the visitors to make it 2-2 and take the tie to a replay in Glasgow the following Saturday. Culter arrived back in Aberdeen disappointed that they were not in the 4th Round draw after matching, and then outplaying their more fancied opponents on a typically heavy Glasgow pitch in front of a fiercely partisan crowd. A series of missed chances late in the first half and early in the second half proved costly for the Deesiders to go down 2-1. Team Manager, Bobby Gray, stated that it was the most disappointed he had felt in his time in football.
