A Vision For Culter
'"A VISION FOR CULTER" -
Planning for Real Exercise, 2 October 2004
ON SATURDAY 2 October
2004, Culter School hosted a half day event which gave local people a say in
what they feel are priorities for the Culter area. Planning for Real involves a
three dimensional model of the area on to which people place cards with various
ideas about what they do (and do not) want to see happening. Themes included
community facilities, community safety, environment, health, housing, leisure,
schools & learning, traffic and transport and work and training. Many people
also contributed their own ideas. The model was built by pupils from Culter
School supported by Aberdeen City Council Community Arts Team.
An estimated 300 people
attended the event which included free children's activities, a raffle, art
competition. Refreshments were kindly provided by Peterculter Parish Church
assisted by a donation from Culter Community Council.
Provisional results of the
event indicate that 768 idea cards were used of which 298 were "own ideas" but
266 of these were allocated to themes. The breakdown in order of priority was:
Traffic &
Transport 293
Environment 87
Housing 71
Schools & Learning
59
Community Facilities
58
Leisure 56
Work & Training 41
Crime 39
Health 34
Own Ideas 40
Once we have fully
analysed the results, a further consultation will take place on priorities and
these will then be fed into the Neighbourhood Community Action Plan for Culter.
Thanks are due to the many
folk who helped to make the day such a success - you know who you are!
A meeting is planned for
Saturday 15 January 2005. This will take place in Culter Primary School from
10am to 1pm. At this meeting, it is hoped that your comments will be discussed
in more detail. Teas and coffees will be available.
