City Council News
IT WAS heart-warming to
see the crowd of Culter folk who came to the "Planning for Real" meeting in
Culter School on Saturday October 2nd. This has proved to be a method of
consultation that works really well. Everybody showed great interest, and
hundreds of tickets were placed on the maps. The big issues were what we would
have expected, and your input has emphasised to Council officers what great
importance we attach to them. Thanks to the children and staff of Culter School
for making the models, and for setting up a great day for us.
I can give some
information on some of the main issues. First, of course, is the annoyance and
danger from heavy lorry traffic. I have already flagged up to Roads officers
that when we get the Western Peripheral Route, we want a weight limit on Malcolm
Road (B979).
Another strong item on the
wish list was for some sheltered housing. This we will get, on the Coronation
Court site. The number of units which that site will take is not as great as I
would have liked, so we need to hope for other developments on Deeside. In
accepting this site for sheltered housing, I have had to withdraw my interest in
the Roads Depot site in The Bush for that purpose. That will enable the Roads
Depot to stay where it is, and we will continue to get the prompt snow-clearing
we have been used to.
Many people would like
more 20mph limit signs. The Council have quite rightly done the roads near the
school first, but we can still campaign for more such zones, perhaps south of
the main road.
There are lots of other
issues, which you raised, and the Aberdeen South team will be studying them over
the coming months.
