CCC Secretary's Report
THROUGHOUT the year
various people have come to speak to members of Culter Community Council.
At the January meeting,
Catherine Dove explained what her remit was as part of Neighbourhood Community
Planning (South). She was our link with Aberdeen City Council and she initiated
the plans for our Planning For Real Day - details elsewhere.
February saw some
residents approach us with ideas of brightening up our village. Erik Stien,
Ronald Clark, Ian McKenzie & Christine Mackie outlined their proposals for tubs,
planters, hanging baskets - and the rest you know. They, and others, formed the
Culter in Bloom group.
In June, two members of
the Gala Committee attended - Aileen Ironside and Steve Davidson, and it was
good to hear their comments about the Gala which had just taken place.
Once again this year we
welcomed a group of Scouts from the American School. Part of their 'Badges' is
to attend a meeting such as ours and hear how decisions are made (or not, as the
case maybe!) There were seven youngsters and four mums at the August meeting. It
was good to have them with us and we hope that it proved beneficial to them.
(Last year we had two lots of eight who visited us.)
Also that evening we had
two speakers - very unusual but necessary. Jane Nicklen was replacing Catherine
Dove and gave us an update as to how the arrangements were progressing for the
Planning For Real Day at Culter School. Graeme Traill, Rector at Cults Academy,
came to tell us about the atest on the 3Rs and, of course, with more details
about the proposed new Cults Academy.
Those of you who have been
inside the Pop-in will realise what a tight squeeze there was that evening!
Three visitors appeared at
the September meeting - Ian Whitehead, Aberdeen Countryside Project, Geoff
Banks, Aberdeen City Council and David Plant, a resident of Culter. They, along
with CCC member Doug Stewart, discussed the paths around Culter including those
beside the Leuchar Burn. Many people walk along these pathways and we are
grateful to those who are making sure that they are retained.
I wish to thank Susan
Chappell-Smith and Paul Anderson for relieving me of the onerous task of taking
the minutes at our monthly meeting and preparing them for distribution.
As you will have read in
the Chair's Report, we have lost three members and so, once again, I appeal for
'new blood' - I sound like Dracula! Please do come along and see what it is all
about.
