58TH
OUR
main fundraiser of the year, the Culter Jumble Sale, will be held on Saturday
6th March 2004 at the Village Hall starting at 2pm. As well as raising funds,
the Jumble Sale also provides an excellent opportunity to practice the community
aspect of Scouting and of providing a service to others in Culter. This aspect
is as important to the boys' development through Scouting, as raising funds. The
Beavers, Cubs and Scouts all have exciting and varied programmes planned for the
coming term. Last term the Beavers went on a visit to the farm at Anguston where
they were taken around the wildlife walk and
were very interested in all the beasties that they fished out of the water.
After the walk they had a look at all the animals and it was agreed that the
bunnies were the cutest! Later in the term, with cuteness still in mind, we
collected pinecones and made them into little beavers. The
Cubs went on a castlehunting walk at Newmillhill Woods and with the help of
Hamish we managed to find the castle at the far corner of the woods. Once
back in the hall, the Cubs completed their science badges, using the excellent
science boxes available from Satrosphere. With the approach of Halloween the
Cubs made pumpkins with some very scary results. The term was finished off with
a trip to the Panto to see Dick Whittington. The
Scouts started last term with a sausage sizzle at Templars Park. The following
week they went rock climbing at Cove cliffs. They went fishing at Raemoir which
was a little unsuccessful as only one Scout caught a fish! The
top two events of the year were the summer camp at the Auchengillan Jamboree and
the other favourite was the messy piethrowing, water-splashing, music-booming
all night Scout party. Simon Sawers Group
