POLICE NEWS
WELL Happy New Year to you all.
Just waiting for the blizzards to hit us and already looking forward to Spring
time! (As well as my well earned holidays!)
In
brief, problems affecting the area have been relatively light as regards crime
and youth related incidents.
Probably the most serious vandalism occurred to the automatic toilet on
North Deeside Road, Culter in November. Damage amounting to 66000 was caused.
Thanks to members of the community, several persons have been identified as
being involved and charged with this crime. No surprises, they are the usual
names that routinely cause
problems in and around the village.
Clearly,
this clearance was as a result of persons coming forward to assist us (the
Police) in the enquiry and we encourage this and are most appreciative of any
assistance given.
Some
of you may be aware already that several disturbance type incidents occurred
back in the Summer time involving some of these youths, and that charges had
been brought against them. Well I can advise that court proceedings have taken
place for some of them and heavy fines handed out. I've come to realise that for
some individuals that cause us grief, the only thing that really impacts on
their behaviour is to hit them where it hurts! In the pocket!
Hopefully,
lessons will be learned!
There
were three Housebreakings over the last 6-7 weeks in Culter, one of which was
detected. For this time of year, the area came off lightly in comparison with
other areas.
It's been mentioned by someone in
the community the fact that at Christmas, a typical present given by parents to
their child, would be a bicycle. The other fact is that the chances are that the
presents did not include a helmet! Yes, I'm well aware of this as well and No,
there is no law in place to enforce the wearing of cycle helmets.
Basically,
I'm using this newsletter to highlight the risks involved for a cyclist and just
as importantly, the parent of a child cyclist. Clearly, the wearing of a helmet
is a modern day MUST! The only thing I'd add to this is that the head is the
most vulnerable part of the body .... need I say more?
