CAMPHILL SCHOOLS NEWS

CHRISTMAS is now well passed and by the time you read this will be into February, and soon spring will be on its way. Spring is a time for new starts and as a School there are many exciting things to share with you.

We have recently had an 'Integrated Inspection' undertaken by Her Majesty's Inspectors for Education and the Scottish Care Commission which concluded that generally the School was offering a very good service to its pupils. As usual there were some recommendations for improvements but nothing that we couldn't encompass. Since then we have admitted some younger pupils which bodes well for the future and similarly the prospective intake for the new BA in Curative Education looks very promising which allows us to continue to offer a high standard of education and care to our pupils.

As you are aware the debate about inclusion of children with special schools into main stream schools continues, with Aberdeen City Council pushing ahead with its policy. Interesting to note is that in January, Community Care magazine highlighted that the 'Government pledges to support special schools' according to its new Special Needs Strategy. Camphill continues to maintain that any placing policy for children with special needs should look at individual needs and that politics, and the finance that goes along with this, should not influence what is right for the child and family.
