POLICE NEWS
Hello Everyone
It’s not quite time to say
Happy Christmas hut it feels like it. With it being the festive time of year
again, there are some seasonal factors which we have to take into consideration.
Unfortunately they are not all fun and cheer, as you would expect at this time
of year.
I commute 60 miles a day and
see a variety of driving styles like the one the other night. On the journey
home the driver behind me wanted to umbilically attach his car to the back of my
car. Perhaps he wanted to save 100th of a second of his journey time. I do not
know - perhaps he was hypnotised by my red lights, perhaps he felt insecure
being in the open countryside but one thing is certain - it made me annoyed -
the other version is unprintable) especially at this time of year where stopping
distances are ever more crucial To the driver concerned ‘BACK OFF!’
One good rule is “Only a fool
breaks the two second rule”. Basically that is the minimum distance there
should be between two cars moving in the same direction. When the first car
passes a fixed point, it should he at least two seconds before the second car
passes the same point and at least double that on wet roads, Saving the above
phrase funnily enough should take two seconds.
Recently there have been
several drink drivers caught which is a good and a bad thing. The good thing is
they will not he driving again for some time which will enhance the safety of
the Community. The bad thing is that people still do it. This can be a problem
YOU can tackle. Don’t let our friends or other persons drink and drive and if
they persist report them immediately. There are alternatives of taxis, buses and
taking turns, It you let them do it and do not do anything about it ask yourself
this question: ’Am I condoning Drink Driving?’
It they kill or badly injure
some one, they are obviously the ones at fault but I am sure it will play on
your conscience for not taking an active role in stopping them. In these
circumstances it is important to give the registration number, colour, make and
model of the car, where they were seen and direction of travel. Perhaps they
would thank you for it as if they did kill someone, not only do they lose their
liberty hut it is with them for the rest of their life AND LET’S NOT FORGET
THE VICTIM and the families involved.
Well the nichts are fairly
drawing in and with that, the hoose-breakers will be oot earlier. Be vigilant!
It has been quiet during the past few months but over the past four weeks there
has been a gradual rise in house breaking in our area. Break-ins, attempts and
thefts from cars have occurred in Brighton Grange,
School Road
, and
Bucklerburn Place
with similar incidents happening in Milltimber in
Colthill Circle
,
Contlaw Place
and Oldfold Crescent.
Remember when out, leave lights
on and make your premises look occupied as there is less probability you will he
broken into. Neighbourhood Watch has been successful on Cults as the majority of
house breakings were in areas where there is no Neighbourhood Watch If you are
interested and would like to find out more, contact PC MacHardy or PC Stewart at
Culter Police Office.
Finally the bus shelter outside
the Ploughman was smashed which would have happened in the early hours on
Saturday 18 October. Another senseless vandalism. If you have any information on
this matter, please contact Grampian Police 386000 or Constables MacHardy or
Stewart at Culter Police Office.
From the
3 November 2003
, the Grampian Police Call Centre will be up and running for non-emergency
calls: 0845 600 5 700
Take care and stay safe!
Alasdair MacHardy
