58TH ABERDEEN (CULTER) SCOUT GROUP

ALL sections within the Group are very active and with the summer term comes the opportunity to be outdoors more and more. The Scouts have already camped at Templars and more camps are planned together with raft races, sailing and orienteering. Scouts and Explorers will be at the Auchengillan’03 Jamboree which offers a full and exciting range of activities including quad biking, hill walking, climbing and free-fall on their climbing tower, water activites on Loch Lomond , an Internet Café and a whole range of social activities with Scouts and Guides from all over the world.

The new Explorer Unit covering Peterculter, Cults, Miltimber, Drumoak and Maryculter is now getting active with a number of leaders, primarily from Cults, applying for Explorer Leader warrants. There is some discussion about the name of the Unit and suggestions are now being considered. The Explorer Unit is open to boys and girls aged 14-18 and welcomes new members. It’s a good time to join!

The Cub Pack finished the spring term with 23 Cubs, all of whom are 8 or 9 and have replaced all our ‘old hands’ who have moved up to Scouts since last autumn. We are pleased to see so many new faces and they have had visits to the swimming pool and Templars (last session before Easter) where many of them have attained swimming and athletic badges. The Cubs and those Scouts 12 and under will be getting an introduction to sailing this term through the SPLASH sessions at the Loch of Skene.

As usual we will be supporting the Culter Gala this year by organising the Duck Race on Saturday 24th May (Burnside at 1.OOpm) and through a number of contributions on Gala day, Saturday 31st May.

The Chief Scout, George Purdy, will be visiting Aberdeen on Sunday 8th June and a programme of events is arranged at Templars to welcome him.
