CCC NEWS
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT • AGM OCTOBER 2002 NOW that the AGM has come around again, my first thoughts are with the very dedicated members of the CCC who have given me great support during the last year, and I hope the Community appreciates the amount of time and effort they give. At this time, we are in the middle of some
very visible changes, what with the Gordon Arms looking like a building
site and the demolition of the 'sinking'
Sheltered Homes on This year we were very lucky with the weather and the sun did shine on the Gala and it was declared a great success. May I say thank you to the very hard working team lead by Ann Wakefield. The Courier goes from strength to strength thanks to the dedication of the Secretary, Marjory Skinner, who nurses it along and makes certain the contributors keep to the times of publication. Again thank you, Marjory. Once it comes from the printer, Ann Wakefield encourages the distributors to get it through the letter boxes on time. It certainly is a concerted effort. I hope the community realises how lucky we are with our Community Policemen and appreciates the care and attention they give to the local area and the contact they have with the younger members of our community. I also would like send congratulations to the Theatre Club who operate out of the Village Hall. The shows and displays are wonderful and are becoming very well known outside our own area. Another 'Well Done'. R F Weller Chairman
THE past year has been eventful in several ways - some bringing happy faces to many people but sad faces to quite a few folk here in Culter. • In January, we bade farewell to John Robertson who had been our treasurer for some years and, to our amazement, we had a volunteer to take his place. Nicola Hector has settled in very quickly and our finances are in excellent hands again. We thank both John and Nicola. • The decision to grant planning permission for flats at the Gordon Arms Hotel was greeted with dismay by most of the residents of the village, and indeed further afield. Lavina Massie, on behalf of CCC, put forward our criticisms of the plans but, as you all know, our views were overlooked.
• After much activity to collect donations, the Rob Roy statue, which had been housed at the Hotel, was bought and taken to its new home at St Peter's Heritage Centre. It gave many people a 'feel-good' day when it was known that their donations had helped in this effort.
• One of CCC's latest recruits, Doug
Stewart,
has been kept extremely busy contacting the Roads Department of Aberdeen
City Council (ACC). Several changes, or upgrading, have been made on
At last year's AGM, Muriel Cheyne and Ann Wakefield announced their resignations from CCC, but were persuaded to withdraw these. It is very hard to get people to commit to our monthly meetings, but somebody out there must be willing to come along. We are still not at full membership. My thanks to Sam Weller (Chairman) Jim Ritchie (Vice Chairman) Lavina Massie (Planning Liaison) Nicola Hector (Treasurer) and Ann Wakefield (Gala Liaison and Distribution of the Courier). Without their support, my task would be a lot harder. The above report was made in preparation for the AGM of CCC but unfortunately there were changes made at the actual meeting. Sam Weller (Chair) and Jim Ritchie (Vice Chair) stood down from these positions but will remain as Community Councillors. Resignations were received from Muriel Cheyne (other commitments) and Iris Heslop (mainly difficulty with mobility). Gary Clark has moved from the area so is not eligible to be a member. We thank all of them for the time and effort they devoted during their 'stint' on CCC, especially Sam and Jim who have agreed to soldier on with us! The new officials for the coming year are: Chair: Lavina Massie Vice Chair/Secretary: Marjory Skinner Treasurer: Nicola Hector Planning Liaison: Lavina Massie Co-ordinator (Gala): Ann Wakefield
