DISTRICT NEWS

THERE may be some good news in the pipeline, as Cllr. Scott Cassie of Garthdee and I are having discussions with George Mair of First Aberdeen about proposals to modify the number 24 bus route. He apologises for not replying to my letters sooner. The draft proposals would give us a run back into the village on the return journey from Bucklerburn, and there would be a longer gap in town before having to catch the bus back. There would be three runs a day instead of the present two.

The route would be changed to go through Garthdee, and would take a few minutes longer to reach Union Street, but it would give daily access to the Bridge of Dee shopping centre. We now have through ticketing, so anybody in a hurry to get into town could change to a number 19 on the same ticket.

Residents and shopkeepers living at the west end of the village have been having more trouble recently from the young people who hang around the shops and elsewhere. Meetings are being held and remedial measures suggested. One of the things which attracts them is the Alldays car park.

Another is their low wall, which they sit on, and the bench in front of it, on which they put their feet. Alldays have been asked to do something about their wall, and I have reluctantly had to agree to ask for the bench to be removed. It is now in very poor condition anyway. I apologise to those who liked to sit on the bench in the daytime, but there are seats in the bus shelter if you need to put your feet up for a bit.

There are a number of places in Culter where bushes and trees overhang pavements and paths. May I ask residents to please cut them back -if we ever get any suitable weather for doing it, that is!

And once again may I ask people not to fly tip garden waste and other rubbish. Much of it can be composted, as I am now doing in my own garden, and most of the rest can go in your wheelie bin.
