Neighbourhood Watch

THE first ever NW conference/seminar to be held in Grampian took place on 3rd June at Woodhill House. The keynote speaker was the Chief Constable of Grampian, Colin Kerracher, who spoke about communities, and answered questions from NW co-ondinators present. The group discussions which followed were about Watches, Meetings, Partnerships and Finance.

There were some surprises. While NW has been successful in helping residents to prevent break-ins, it was pointed out that nowadays there are many more threats to their security and peace.  Since NW was started here in the 1980s the misuse of drugs and alcohol has escalated. Antisocial Behaviour, Doorstep Crime and Fraud of all sorts appear in many forms. It is not just a matter of phoning the police nowadays.

Many different services are now in place to advise and support residents. The suggestion is that. NW extends its role in prevention and `the number to call' into the sphere of these new or spreading crimes.
