WITH the 2006 season now entering
its critical period, Cults 1st XI have hauled themselves back into the
Grade l title race after a tine performance against rivals Bon Accord.
Star of the show was skipper Amol Saxena who took five wickets to rip
out the heart of the Bon Accord batting line up. The weekend of 29th
July should decide whether Cults will win any trophies this season as
they travel to league leaders Kintore on the Saturday and then again on
Sunday in the Aberdeenshire Cup. The 2nd XI lie 7th in Grade 2 but are
well clear of relegation. They have had a mixed bag this season with
some excellent performances and some not so hot. Player availability has
again been a problem throughout tile season with the captains struggling
to get two teams out at a weekend.
Recently, hardly a week seems to go
by without the various facilities at the Allan Park being vandalised by
thugs. Some of them even had the nerve to climb up on to the roof of the
changing facilities and shower coins and stones onto the members, who
were practising. Police response on this matter is almost non existent.
Such is the danger that these thugs cause with their drinking, abuse and
threatening behaviour that the junior practice on a Friday night has had
to be stopped. There is simply too much risk that one of the youngsters
will be injured. It really is a sad state of affairs as these juniors
really enjoyed their Friday nights at the Allan Park.
Thanks
must go to our sponsors last year, Aberdein Considine, whose generous
sponsorship has allowed Cults to purchase new equipment and make
improvements to the changing facilities.
We are always on the lookout for new
players so if you, or anyone you know; would like to come and join us
for a practice, I can be contacted on the following:
