NOW that summer is here (at last'),
its time to get the BBQ out. Nothing tastes better than food cooked
outside, but many people are injured every year because they did not
follow a few simple safety measures. This information will help make
sure that your BBQ is a SAFE success.
-
Requires a solid level base, which is made of non-flammable
materials.
-
Site
a safe distance from buildings, trees and shrubs.
-
If possible keep out of wind.
-
Do not position the BBQ under
awnings or gazebos.
-
Make
sure the grill can't be knocked over by children or pets.
-
By keeping doors and windows
closed, burning materials cannot be blown into the house.
Lighting your BBQ
-
If
you are using a disposable BBC, snake sure all the packaging is
removed.
-
Keep a bucket of
water or sand nearby in case of accidents.
-
When using BBQ lighting fluids or block lighters,
follow the instructions on the packaging.
-
Take extra care with self-lighting charcoal BBQ packs
as they can flare up on ignition.
-
Under no circumstances use petrol, paraffin or any
other flammable liquids to light or revive your BBQ.
-
If you have a gas BBQ, check joints for leaks with
soapy water, especially after winter storage.
-
Once lit, never
leave a BBQ unattended.
Other
Safety Tips
-
Beware - Many BBQ
accidents and injuries have occurred as a result of over consumption
of alcohol. Don't COOK and DRINK.
-
Never move a BBQ
once lit; extinguish and allow to cool fully before moving.
-
Store spare LPG
cylinders well away from the BBQ and house.
We hope the sun keeps
shining and your BBQ is a great success!

YOUR COMMUNITY A SAFER PLACE.
