58th Aberdeen (Culter) Scout Group58TH ABERDEEN (CULTER) SCOUT GROUP - WE have just completed another successful year at the Culter Scouts. The highlight of 2005 was the Scouts' summer camp at the International Scout Centre at Kandersteg in Switzerland. A party of 18 flew to Switzerland at the end of July and spent a week of exciting activities with Scouts from across the globe. The Scouts successfully raised the total cost of the camp through fund raising and grant applications - an excellent effort and an essential part of the experience! Due to high demand, we created a second Beaver colony in 2005 but have recently reduced back to one as the `bulge' in Beavers has moved up to Cubs. Beavers is for 6-8 year olds where boys start on the structured 6-25 programme of the Scout Association. We are looking for two more leaders in our planning for 2006 and wish to create a small team to run Beavers in order to share ideas and activities. Please let me know if you would like to help. Our challenge in 2005 was to recruit new leaders for Cubs which is for 8-10 year olds. After several meetings, one parent (from each of the Cubs families) is now taking our leader warrants and undergoing training. This new team has got off to a great start with lots of new ideas for activities and energies to run Tuesday evening Cubs meetings. We look forward to all our Scouting activities in 2006 and our first fund raiser of the year is a Burns Supper and Ceilidh on the 4th February and by the time you read this you will have hopefully heard about our great night at the Village Hall!
