Neighbourhood Watch

I HOPE you didn't miss the publicity surrounding the Launch of the Grampian Neighbourhood Watch Association. This is a brand new organisation to support all 900+ watches and local associations in Grampian. All watches and local associations are welcome to join, and the website is www.grampiannwa.co.uk. In line with the rest of the country, registration numbers will be issued to all active watches.

GNWA is the first area association which comprises watches and local associations, to be affiliated with the Association of Scottish Neighbourhood Watches. Similar organisations are being set up for all other areas of Scotland.

This may sound very grand, but the purpose is

• to give existing watches the support they need,

• to advise the public on house security, • and to encourage the setting up of new watches.

All of this has come about since the Home Office and Scottish Executive decided that the `National Neighbourhood Watch Association' (NNWA)has no jurisdiction in Scotland. The Executive is giving AoSNW its support, and Grampian Police have greatly assisted the formation of GNWA. Neighbourhood Watch helps reduce Crime and the Fear of Crime and enhances Community Spirit.
