WE
have recently received a very generous donation from the Masonic Lodge
Felix after their auction earlier in the year and sponsored walk on the
West Highland Way in the summer. This has enabled us to expand our range
of emergency medical equipment with the addition of a new semi-automatic
defibrillator (used in a cardiac arrest) and an ECG machine (for
diagnosing heart problems). These items duplicate similar existing
models which we have, but importantly mean we can have a set permanently
in the health centre premises and a set for use by the duty doctor for
emergencies in the community. Also we used the donation to purchase an
ECG belt enabling speedy setting up of a cardiograph (ECG), and two
pulse oximeters which are used for establishing blood oxygen levels when
assessing the seriousness of various medical emergencies. This has been
a very useful addition to our arsenal of emergency gear and the practice
is most grateful to Lodge Felix for choosing the practice as
beneficiary.
There will be a
major practice computer system development occurring in the New Year,
indeed one which will unfortunately cause some disruption for a while
and we would ask you to take note of this and please bear with us. Look
out for further information regarding this at the Health Centre and
local pharmacies nearer the time. We are having a new version of our
computer system installed which will be a very major system upgrade.
This will take most of one day to install and thereafter we do expect
some disruption as we get used to the change (admin processes will
inevitably be slower). As we use the computer for the vast majority of
administrative tasks from booking appointments to writing prescriptions,
the disruption is likely to be fairly significant for a short while.
Anyone needing repeat prescriptions will be advised to order early and
we will need to rearrange how we manage appointment booking during this
time in order to ease the transition. Details will be available as soon
as we know the exact dates.
I must stress
these are simply short term measures designed to help us cope with a big
computer change and we hope that normal service will be resumed very
quickly. Ultimately the new computer upgrade should help us work better
with good quality processing of data etc. Apologies for any
inconvenience that this may cause in the meantime.
With best
wishes,
Dr Douglas
