St. Peter's Heritage CentreTHE Heritage Centre has had a busy summer and many people from far and wide have visited the centre and made positive comments. Many were amazed that the Centre has only been open for five years and that we are entirely self supporting. The afternoon teas at the Heritage Hall on Saturdays and Sundays have also been very popular and they will continue until 18th December and resume again on Sunday 5th February 2006. Given the success of the afternoon teas, there is an urgent need for more volunteers - even two/three times a year would be a great help. If you are interested, please contact Violet Smith - Tel 733317. As has been the custom over the last few years, we shall be holding an afternoon of Christmas Music on Sunday 18th December provided by our resident music group "Scotch Broth" who meet in the Hall each Sunday evening. During the afternoon, mulled wine and mince pies will be provided - do come along and take part in the spirit of Christmas. "Scotch Broth" who meet on Sunday evenings would be really pleased to welcome more people to join their group. If you can play an instrument, enjoy playing traditional music and are of intermediate standard, please come along on Sundays at 7pm. The next social event in the Heritage Hall is taking place on Friday 20th January 2006 when Andy Hall will be making a return visit to show more of his outstanding slides of Scotland. In fact he has just published his second book showing pictures selected by well known Scottish personalities. Tickets will be on sale in early December. (a4 for nonmembers and 63 for members.) The Heritage Hall is available for let throughout the day and on a number of evenings. If you are interested in hiring the hall, please contact John Troup - Tel 732701. The Hall is extremely suitable for children's birthday parties. The Hall also has good car parking and modern kitchen and toilet facilities. Now for two requests: Does anyone in Culter have photos of the inside of the Heritage Hall prior to it being refurbished in the 1960s; there are plenty of photos of the outside but none of the inside! Also photos and stories about "Pie Jean's" - now the Borsalino Restaurant - would also be welcome. For newer residents, this area was the bus terminus for Culter prior to the buses going up to Johnston Gardens. If you can help, please contact Allan Pennie at the Heritage Centre. The Heritage Centre will be closed from 4pm on Sunday 18th December and will re-open on Saturday 14th January 2006. If there is anyone coming from a distance who would particularly wish to visit the centre during the closure period, contact Allan Pennie Tel 01330 822322 |
