Culter Pipe Bands

THE bands have been really busy over the past few months playing at engagements and competitions. We have played at Crathes Castle, Balmoral Castle. the Easter Anguston Open Day and the Genesis company barbecue at Kippie Lodge.

On the competition side, we have been to Dumbarton, Turriff, Aberdeen Highland Games, Banbridge N.I. and Inverness Highland Games and our results have been steadily improving over the season. Neither band was placed at Dumbarton in the Scottish Championships but the 47th Culter BB Novice band gained 5th place at Banbridge in the European Championships.

This was the first time we have been placed at a major championship for two years. In the local contests, the novice band won the best novice trophy a Aberdeen and Inverness Highland Games. They placed 8th out of 11 at Aberdeen in grade 4 against adult bands. They also won the best novice drumming trophy at Aberdeen - there were no best drumming trophies at the other locals all though they were the best at both!

The Culter and District band did not compete at Turriff due to members being on holiday but did manage 4th place in Grade 3 and Grade 2 at Aberdeen, winning the drumming in Grade 3. Al Inverness they won Grade 3 and were second in Grade 2 - they placed first in drumming again in Grade 3 but no trophy was awarded.

We now have had our new logo printed onto the bass drums along with the band names so everybody will know who we are. Thanks to Gordon Williams of Passell (Aberdeen) Ltd. for this.

Finally a big thank-you to all who supported the bands during our Playathon during the Gala week - we raised over £1000 for band funds. It was a long 11/2 hours but was worth it in the end. Thank you.
