St. Peter's Heritage CentreSUMMER has brought many more visitors to the Heritage Centre and this is encouraging; for many people it has been their first visit and they are extremely complimentary on what has been collected and displayed. Many people are surprised that we receive no grant support from any public bodies and that all our initiatives are funded locally and through support of our 257 members. Our last social event was to celebrate the refurbishment of Rob Roy who had been "rescued" for the village at auction at the former Gordon Arms Hotel. The statue has been restored thanks to James Milne of Ardbeck and Danny Laing and students from Aberdeen College who did the repainting. Rob Roy now looks resplendent and the unveiling ceremony was performed by Allan Pennie. A social evening then followed with entertainment and a most interesting video presentation of the journey of Rob Roy from the Leuchar Burn via the Gordon Arms to the Heritage Centre. Currently there is a display in the Centre of wartime memories which has attracted a great deal of interest. It is also hoped to mount a display of artefacts belonging to the late George McNab. Teas at the Heritage Hall (2-4pm each Saturday and Sunday) are very well supported and it is encouraging to see people enjoying this facility. The Hall is still underused and there are a number of evenings available for let as well as anytime during the day. If you are interested in hiring the Hall, please contact John Troup: Tel 732701. The Trust ishoping to have a series of social/heritage events over the winter months so watch local notice boards and the Courier for more information. The Heritage Trust AGM is on Thursday 22nd September 2005 at 7.30p.m. in the Heritage Hall. We would very much like to encourage new people on our committee - you would be most welcome. Finally, our congratulations to the "Courier" on reaching 100. We at the Heritage look forward to many more editions - well done! |
