IT IS with great
sadness I must tell you that the previous Chairman of Culter Community
Council, Sam Weller
(actually Captain
Royston Frederick Weller)
died
in June this year. I think it shows the high regard in which Sam was
held by his fellow members of CCC that five were able to attend the
service of thanksgiving and others sent their condolences because they
were away on holiday or had previous commitments.
Sam's input to
the Community Council was given with thought - and a fair amount of
cynicism! He used to say that the same problems always came around again
and again to haunt us. But that did not stop him giving of his best to
improve things for the community. We shall miss his cynicism which
always seemed to spur us on to try harder and do better.
Turning to the
other news, I am pleased to see Culter is looking `blooming' good with
all the planters and hanging baskets looking bright and cheerful -
thanks to the Culter in Bloom committee and the volunteer `waterers'.
It is also
gratifying to say that Gala Day was a success despite the atrocious
weather. Thanks to the sterling efforts of the Gala Committee, and
Alison Skinner and Susan Chappell-Smith of the Hall Committee, we were
able to transfer the agenda to the Village Hall. It seemed to me that a
good time was had by all - except the Treasurer because, of course, the
funds raised were lower than hoped for! (See inside for more details and
reports.)
Looking forward,
a `Your Culter' Day is being planned for Saturday 1st October 2005. This
idea is for clubs and organisations to be on hand to tell you what goes
on in the village (and recruit new members). It also will give you an
update on the `Planning for Real' exercise we had last year. Hopefully
we will be able to show
• what has been
done (of the many things you requested)
• what is going
on
• what you want
to see happening next.
