A generation of Culter
"loons & quines" ( and probably the generation before them )
will be sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs Manson, who has
died at the age of 94. "Manson's" shop which is now the left
handside of "Jumbo's" was a magnet for Culter village kids
who spent their sweetie money there.
How many Sports mixtures
did you get for a penny? How much did you get back for an
empty Hay's lemonade bottle?. In those days, you could
even nip down for a packet of cigarettes for your Da ( or in
my case, a packet of "Old Holburn" tobacco).
When Mr & Mrs Manson
retired, the shop and the Co-op Bakery next door was
converted, into a larger Newsagency, by the Rolph's.
James and Williamina Manson were right there at the
centre of Culter life, for many decades, and we offer our
grateful thanks. Williamina died on Saturday 27th
August 2005 at the Overdon Care Home in Kintore. A Service
took place at Peterculter Parish Church on Thursday 1
September at 2.30pm.

Manson's, please visit the

Cults
Shops
ADVERTS
Do you have
memories of some of these shops, and their proprietors, in
the Cults area?. Can you date them? The Cults Bowling
Club had been in existence for 38 years, having occupied the
same site for 30 years. "The nicely kept green stands
close to the north side of the railway line, near
Westerton Road". Please share your stories
in the
forum.
