Gala Day- Culter Celebrates!

Gala Day 2006 culminated in a special 5-aside- game between Friends Reunited and 5B United.  The two teams were battling for the honour of the "Zoe Skea Shield", in memory of their friend and classmate.  A thrilling match was played out with Sam Barnett scoring an amazing hat-trick  for Friends Reunited (playing in red). 5B United  (in blue) made a terrific recovery and, with goals by Matthew McIntosh, Steven Mitchell and Stuart Smith, drew level for a truly well-deserved draw.  The two winning captains received their prize, along with individual trophies for all the players, from Zoe's best friend Anna Strachan.  Anna is  definitely a Hazel Irvine of the future - by keeping me up to date with all the action as it was played out. Thank you all for such a memorable match -and, I think, Zoe would have been so chuffed (particularly with the multi-coloured hair styles!).

The Culter Gala, organised every year by the Community Council, takes place in the last week of May at the Culter School Playing Fields.

This year, Gala Day was Saturday 27th May 2006.

PROGRAMME 2006 (Word File)

The theme for the event -  "Join the Circus".

We hope you all had a memorable time on Gala Day 2006.  Although  there were one or two heavy showers during the afternoon, the sun soon dried up the ring for events to continue. Many thanks to Kristin Gove for opening the event  and bringing along the whole family to enjoy the many stalls and attractions on offer.  Danny McGregor gave a phenomenal display of football skills - the Culter Pipe Bands, as always, entertained the crowd - the fantastic enthusiasm of the Casket African Drumming Section warmed up the onlookers - the Ninja Men (Mark, Laurence and Adam) fought it out on a rather soggy arena !

Some of the winners were:

GRAND PRIZE RAFFLE

1st Prize £200 - Richard Will

2nd Prize £100 John Lewis Vouchers - Liz Wilson

3rd Prize £100 Cash- Marjory Skinner  ( the CCC Secretary won a main prize last year!)

4th Prize Round of Golf for 4 at Peterculter Golf Club - Sheen a Anderson

The Winners of the Fancy Dress were:

1st Rebecca Jones as Paddington Bear

2nd Lotte de Koning as Belle

3rd Laura Shaw as a very coluorful Clown

The Floats were judged to be a draw!  Both  the Woodlands Nursery Garden and the Boys Club had put a tremendous effort into their floats, Kirstin was unable to decide between the two. The Nursery got the biggest Shield - just because they were littlest!

1st Casket

2nd PTA

In the Kids Races the victors were:

The 5-aside Football was contested between Friends United and 5B United . Result was a 3-3 draw. Anna Strachan presented the winners with the Zoe Skea Memorial Shield.

The Gala Committee hope that some of this year's Gala profits will help to go towards the provision of Festive Lights, through the streets of Culter,  this December.
